Ridge Board Roof

So the ridge is basically the peak of a roof but ridge also refers to the board or beam that is used in building the ridge.

Remove the spacers in both end wall trusses and put the ridge board in between the 2 gable ends. The ridge board and rafters are the strength of the roof. Line it up with the top of the truss and nail in place. The rafters and trusses that are part of the overall roof structure are connected along the body of the ridge board helping to create a durable framework that protects the rooms of the structure underneath.

Because the ridge board is a smaller member typically only an inch thick sometimes even less it is not a structural member and doesn t carry the gravity load.
